LIVING IN LOS

Many of you who live in LOS must be "A" personalities. As I plan my departure from Texas ( we are our own country ) I wonder what keeps you challenged. I want and need to relax but I don't wish to be the guy laying on the curb 8 months after I arrive. That is my biggest fear.

When I make the move I plan on joining one of the many golf clubs in Pattaya. I am an avid golfer so that alone will keep me busy and away from the bars. I would suggest not living in Pattaya but some place when you can get to Pattaya within a cab or bus ride.

Thaime is giving some good advice - find some sort of hobby to keep you busy - or get involved in one of the local service clubs - like Rotary, or Lions, etc.

You could also try consulting if you have special knowledge that might be useful to some LOS companies.

The Rotary sounds like an excellent idea I know a gentlemen in Pattaya who belongs. I am not an avid golfer but I do enjoy it. I just remember on my last visit there was a gentleman from England who was 62 and he had a 34 year old GF. The ran a little bar / restaurant and he told me he spent most his days sitting at the corner of the bar drinking coffee and reading the paper and talking. His wife ran the small area. At 5:00 pm they would go to a movie or dinner and then home. The latter part sounds nice but the sitting drinking coffee all days seems like it will get old fast.

Living anywhere requires something to "fill" in the time.

For me, i intend moving in about 9 years time. (lets hope things dont change too much )

I'll be kept busy enough by my interest in financial markets and golf.

And I'd happily join in a Thai language class - if my poor brain can absorb something

I'm not sure I'm one for rotary etc but you never know i guess.

Stay away from the bars and booze is the key to enjoyment on the long haul - of course anything in moderation is fine

Man, I never even thought about going to learn Thai. That is a no brainer and sounds like a good challenge.

Gotta agree that filling in the days is the biggest issue, living there is fine but being honest I am not up for rooting all day and drinking all day. Not into golf but motor sports.

Boredom is a MAJOR issue.

I am thinking of moving O/S soon but need to sort out living costs plus the biggie what to do during my days.

bugeye, that is the exact stage I am at. My goal is leave here in May of 2014. Can do the English teaching thing to keep busy and generate some cash. I have even discussed ways of emptying my 401K, then leaving before the tax paying part but then I think the IRS would be with me.
