Big Dogs.....12 years later

Hello,

For all the newbies this may not mean much, but for the old timers they might remember/assimilate.

Each year for the past 12 years I have been caught sitting on the stools at Big Dogs. It seams that the girls and ladyboys have gotten younger and either the bar stools smaller or my arse bigger. Its been a wild ride. 3-6 times a year I have occupied that spot and watched as the "Superstar" of the month has walked past.

It has always seemed to me that the Casanova lbs are the earliest to arrive, perhaps that is because they need the most makeup.....then the Cascade crowd and finally the Nipon seeking Obsessions group.

I have cherished every moment of watching them walk past. I have seen nobody's become superstars and superstars become the lb looking for next months rent.

3M baht later I realize that no matter how long I sit there, and how many drinks I might buy it will always be the same....whats your name, how old are you, and where do you stay? Nothing changes.

God I love Thailand!

Sorry for the insightful post, but I am drunk and just want to share while I wait for the next superstar to arrive in my room.

I promise to try to follow with some pics as I know that is the key to a successful post.

I can say that I have been quite hammered many times on those same stools over the years. The only thing that may have changed was the brand of beer I would order.

I remember vividly the first and list times I was in Big Dogs...

The last time a few days ago was a disappointment. The entrance was blocked shut with trucks leaking ice and clanking empty bottles and the bars were deserted.

The upside was that I didn't have to walk too far to get a kebab!

But over the years we have had some fantastic meetings there so overall I have great memories of that bar.

The bar just along, i think Rock and Roll or something has has the same endless loop cassette playing for years and years

If you walk past at 3.15pm  Highway to Hell is usually blaring out.

Same time every day for twenty fucking years. Like ACDC but they had more than one song. The bar owner must be insane by now same as the staff

Even shopping malls in London play the same tunes for 10 years. Must be the copyright payments. Chris De Burgh probably on his arse and guys like him, Buggles etc , sell there tunes off cheap . ( Thailand dont have that issue of course)

I do actually love this place and the music they play (rock music), I never ever tire of it there  even if I do agree they do play the same tape everyday  

I have spent many a happy afternoon and night chillin out there, the last being with Foggy in January.

Much prefer it to Big Dogs and you can still see the talent going by

Big Dogs ( or Luck Lukes for that matter) is the best fucking floor show in the world. You can sit there from 630-800 and you see the mst amazing, funny, perplexing things. All flr the price of a few drinks. Not bad especially if you think about the fact you can stumble upstairs for some action!!!

Those 3 or 4 bars in and around the entrance to Nana and across the road are always busy no matter what hour of the day you pass .

No trip to Bangkok is complete without an hour or two at Big Dogs taking in the sights sounds and smells and general craziness of Nana

KatoeyLover, Bumpa and Monkeyman introduced me to Big Dogs and NEP a few years back...And I am forever in their debt...I will never forget that day and evening...Thank you all...

Some years later when I had become an Official Big Dog Rail Sitter I picked a seat on the rail...Soon a young fellow came and sat next to me...Shortly after he leaned over and told me that it was his first visit to Thailand and did I know where Nana Entertainment Plaza was...I pointed to the sign and he looked and he laughed...

After a bit I noticed that he was paying more attention to the tall beautiful ladyboys than the GGs...I felt obliged to say something to him and so I did...And he was astonished...We both sat for a bit longer and his eyes continued to follow the ladyboys as they entered NEP...Finally he paid his bill and was about to leave when he said only, "I might have to change."

I often wonder if he did change...But I really wonder if he remembers his first to Big Dogs as fondly as I remember mine...
