  • Ko Samet Anyone

Living on a meager budget in the LOS, I thought I had been priced out of Ko Samet since the cheap lodging sucks and the expensive lodging is generally unaffordable to me.

But my favorite resort, the Sai Kaew Beach Resort, is offering their Deluxe Cottages for only 58 USD in July and August so it's time to bust open the piggy bank!

Noi and I have been there many times and really enjoy it. One time Franck131 and Natalie joined us and it was good for the girls to be able to talk Thai while the farangs spoke in English. Every ladyboy I've brought to Samet has enjoyed it very, very much.

So would anyone and their companion like to join me and Noi?

How many nights are you going for?

Also - it should be pointed out that they are building and renovating this resort during the summer which is the reason it's cheaper...

I was thinking 3 nights. But with rates so low I'm open to more. And am flexible as to the dates as long as Noi can get off work which should not be a problem.

Weekdays are a little better since the island is somewhat quieter and the resort is less likely to be all booked up.

Yeah, I notcied one website listed a renovation special. I called the hotel to get a handle on exactly where the renovation is happening and the hotel "seemed to imply" it's near the front desk which is the area by the Superior Rooms.

This resort is really 2 resorts in one with the Deluxe Cottage area being about a 3 minute walk from the Superior Room area. The Superior Rooms are old and not too appealing. The Deluxe Cottages are a whole different story, exactly what I'm looking for in a resort including very nice outdoor showers.

When traveling with a girl to Ko Samet it's important for me to have a comfortable room with a good bed and a nice bathroom area. There's nothing worse than coming in from the beach to a crappy room.

Even if there's some noise during the day, that's OK with me but the room must be nice. But it's unclear how much I'll be affected by the noise given the construction might be quite a distance from the rooms. I know Samet pretty well and know 58 bucks is a bargain for the Deluxe Cottages.

There's 3 swimming options at Sai Kaew Beach Resort.
One is a pool near the Deluxe Cottages. Another is a small beach near the Deluxe Cottages. The third is the main beach near the Superior (haha) Room section.

To get a handle of the physical layout think of the Superior Room section as Pattaya Bay and the Deluxe Cottage area as Jomtien Bay. You can only get from one to the other by an inland route.

Price includes breakfast for 2 at the buffet but otherwise I avoid the hotel restaurant since there's better and cheaper alternatives for lunch and dinner.

The big intangible is that the staff knows me and Noi and treat us very well.

It's also fun to rent bikes during the day and explore the island which is mostly dirt roads.

If anyone wants to contact the resort the number is (038) 644-193 but it's much cheaper to book via the internet and I find Agoda to be the best website to book.

So if anyone's up for a road (and boat) trip, give a shout!
3 or 4 couples would really be fun!

I would do it PD but won't be anywhere near there!

        I do like Samet

some islands further south are better but there's not many things I like more than being on a tropical island

I saw your post about re-locating to a beach location.....Samet would be the cheapest to do that, probably.....look around while you are there, I am sure there are places down the coast from White Sand beach which could make you happy for 10-15K per month, year-round, around the Naga inn, that area.... me thinks you'd be bored stiff pretty quick though. I will be living on an island full-time someday, about 3-5 years off; not sure where yet but northeast Phuket seems about right, away from the crowds and parallel with the airport but on the other side of the island.

you may also want to try Phan-Gan and Koh Tao for a beach home, I am sure you could live in either place for 10-15K per month year round but again the boredom factor would come into play really quickly I would think. good luck man, have fun on Samet.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
