Heros are being stupid now!

I'm no expert on this 'hero' stuff, but it seems to me, that if every time a little bit of info leaks out, a hammer gets swung around, threatening VIPs with all manner of threats, then soon enough all but the most vigilant and obedient will get uncomfortable and leave.

I understand that trip reports are largely the lifeblood of this forum's existence, but I think diplomacy rather than brute force, may be a better way to go about investigating and dealing with infringements. At least until the situation becomes better known. Mafia style tactics don't have a good track record in voluntary organizations.

clearly you have not been on the receiving endof a 'heros' work.

Myself and hawke eye both had complications arising from a vip disclosing our trip information on a recent phils trip.

I was accused of posting certain pics...then had to point out that it wasnt me..this of course incriminates another vip and so the issue snowballs!

With the FF episode and now this, i feel trip reports and pics will soon become history and the forum been just a information board as no one is safe while this crap continues.

Your case is a good example of why some caution should be exercised.

I'm not making a judgment on how right or wrong certain actions are. Just that it appears a bit more diplomacy may be called for at times. Using maximum force may achieve some of one's goals, but it has costs too.

For example, if we took a machine gun to every pick pocket in a shopping center, we'd get rid of all the pick pockets and everyone else.

As angry as things might make us, we can't solve everything with brute force. This is not a defense of all that heros or the loose lipped may do.

Only recently some girls I know were chatting about this site, they used to attend it occasionally. They actually brought it up. God forbid some whisper turns into a rumor, fingers get wrongly pointed and all of a sudden I've got a pack of foaming vigilantes trying to ruin my life.

While I've no intention to break any rules, frankly, the readiness to lynch makes me wonder if it's worth the risk of perhaps one day being falsely accused or of doing something quite innocent which gets blown out of proportion.

I'm also not saying punishments aren't warranted, but a methodology of 'seems some guy did X, should we hang him or burn him?' doesn't sound like due process to me.

I don't envy Bumpa's task, just trying to add my 2c to the debate, to demonstrate that for some of us, the angst can be a little disconcerting.

Nobody has been banned so far and nobody has had any personal information on them spilled onto the forum.

Sometimes the rhetoric alone will make our VIP members think twice about what they do and how they deal with the info on here.

I've always said that our privacy in the VIP areas is just $5 away from anyone with a credit card.

It's a step in the right direction to have a VIP area but it's open to everyone and we should be aware that there are some cunts out there who have small lives and smaller brains.

In the new year, the previously free passes will be torn up and that may solve a couple of privacy issues.

A vote for commonsense. This will sit well with most of the guys who posted on this thread.

Despite the appeal of a 'public flogging', the reality could easily have blown up in the forum's face. And once posted it can't be unposted.

And no one who saw this thread will now be in any confusion about the consequences of discussing forum business while in SE Asia.

I have to disagree with quietly deleting VIPs who leak. Right now there are NO consequences for breaking the conditions of VIP membership.

The leakers who have caused problems recently are sitting back with relief, knowing they can do it again and not worry about it and we have at least two bms who have decided not to post any more trip reports.

The question then is will members want to belong to a forum that has few or no new trip reports without photos if this continues on?

If a VIP is verified to be breaking the conditions of membership, the username should be posted as being banned. That is a clear sign to ALL that this is not tolerated.

Sorry GDS, but clearly NOT ALL members are intelligent and thoughtful here.
