So here is an interesting news story!

    Third-sex hostesses ready for takeoff
    By The Nation
    Published on January 25, 2011

Thai transsexuals were overjoyed as new airline P.C. Air yesterday took air hostess job applications from "third sex" candidates at Bangkok's Esplanade shopping mall.

Among the successful applicants was Miss Tiffany 2007 winner Thanyarat "Film" Jiraphatpakorn.

P.C. Air executive Peter Shan said the company had seen the potential of transsexuals to work as hostesses.

After passing the preliminary round, the transsexuals will undergo training along with female air-hostesses and will have a "third sex" name tag pinned to their uniform to avoid immigration issues, Shan explained.

The first batch of successful candidates consisted of 17 women, 10 men and three transsexuals.

Miss Tiffany 2007 winner Thanyarat, 23, said she was overjoyed to get the chance she had longed for.

"At first I thought they would just take applications but not actually recruit us, as happened at other places before," she said.

Another transsexual applicant, Panthakan Sri-ngern, 24, said she once applied for a hostess position at another airline but wasn't chosen. She said a friend who worked there later told her she was rejected because she was transsexual. She felt devastated by the discrimination.

Panthakan, who has a hospitality and tourism degree from Kasetsart University, said this time she hoped to succeed and was glad Thai society was now giving more opportunities to transsexuals
This must be a brand new domestic airline - PB Air folded operations a couple of years ago - and since they are talking about avoiding problems with immigration it sounds like they have international destinations planned.

    Good news if it's true.

High profile jobs like this usually lead to a change in attitudes and opportunities for both the generally uninformed public and transgendered persons.

I suspect there is another reason for that..perhaps to avoid 'passenger' issues

Of the 10 I wonder how many could be femboys

This is a good story and could open the way for more in the future

...well they might be if tourists that accept LBs as individuals support the airlines that don't discriminate against them; I'll certainly give them a try my next visit there..

Yes, Panicos, I remember that story from a few year ago, and thank for checking out the facts!

Some more information about PC Air from Bangkok Post.

New Thai airline dares to be different

A new regional airline is openly advertising for transgender cabin staff ahead of its launch in March.

PC Air said it wanted to open up opportunities for members of the "third gender" to work in a job regarded by many as a dream career.

The airline has recruited three transgender staff, including a former beauty pageant winner and actress, to provide inflight services.

This is not the only unique feature of the new airline, as one of its two founders is a career fortune-teller.

Neither of the partners has any experience in aviation or the travel industry. The other investor has a background in real estate.

Also surprising is the company's decision to buy two used Airbus A310 aircraft, rather than lease them, the normal course for start-up carriers.

Fortune-teller Piyo Chantraporn, 47, said he had a "sixth-sense" insight which spurred him to launch the airline. He and realty businessman Chatrawiwat Klumkomol raised 200 million baht to set up the venture.

Mr Piyo said of the airline's unorthodox approach: "I believe we have done the right thing in breaking down the barriers and allowing [transgenders] to do jobs which society holds in high regard."

PC Air opened recruitment on Monday and has already selected 30 cabin staff - 17 women, 10 men and three transgenders, including Thanyarat Chirapatpakorn, who was crowned Miss Tiffany Universe 2007 and is best known as a model and soap opera actress who uses the name "Nong Film".

Mr Piyo, who prefers to be called Peter Chan, said the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) had no objection to transgender cabin staff, provided they met the requirements of the job.

He said PC Air received an airline operating licence from the DCA on Dec 28 and was preparing to begin services in early March.

Details have yet to be ironed out but Mr Piyo said PC Air would initially operate scheduled charter services from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport to other parts of Asia. He could not give specific details of destinations, routes, frequencies and marketing plans at this stage.

The airline's website describes PC Air as a "high quality" airline with premium inflight services. It will offer charter services to Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka and major cities in China.

Mr Piyo said the two European-made Airbus A310 aircraft , with 228 seats, including 18 in business class, were undergoing maintenance checks and being painted in the PC Air livery in Singapore.

The first jet will be delivered to Bangkok by the end of next month and the second 40 days later.

What does the P C stand for? Politically correct?

I understand that there were two ladyboys working for Thai Airways but the second one never seemed to get any publicity.

Good guess RR, but PC are the initials of one of the owners PC = Peter Chan aka Piyo Chantraporn.

I'd definitely fly with this airline.
I wonder where they will be flying to?

Here's their website: PC Airline. For now it looks like they are flying to Seoul, Korea, Tokyo and Osaka Japan.

An interview with Nong Film about her new career (1st of 2 parts). Unfortunately all in Thai without English subtitles - but gives you an idea of what she sounds like - very ladylike.
