Acedemic Survey of Men attracted to Transwomen

Northwestern University is seeking men who are attracted to transwomen / ladyboys / she-males etc to find out more about how we tick, the trends and diversity among us, if we're crazy etc

I was approached via my website www.transoriented.com to try to find guys to do the survey.

btw: By the questions, the seem to think many such guys as us are wanabee transwomen or crossdressers, apparently quite a few men surveyed back in 1993 were of this type. I doubt it applies to most here.

btw: A question for you guys...

Do any of you like dressing up as women yourselves or know many guys who like ladyboys and like cross-dressing? Apparently, previous studies have found that a lot of men who are into transwomen are kind of closet wanabe transwomen themselves. It's called autogynephilia.

Personally I'd get a soft on wearing girls stuff or trying to act like one, but different strokes for different folks. As a minority deviate, I ain't frowning on no one

I just did the survey and found some of the questions interesting in themselves. I'm happy to contribute to anything that helps give greater understanding to the world of TS. I'd be interested to read the results when they finally get published.

I will definitely be following any results as they come to hand and sharing with the community here.

Along similar lines is an article I wrote for my site that readers of this thread may be interested in and may have opinions on. I'd appreciate feedback.

A Description of Transoriented Men

Here's a short summary of that article - most guesses, don't shoot me....

  1. Over 90% of transoriented men don€™t consider themselves to be gay, those who do, consider themselves a different type of gay.
  2. Self-identified gays are rarely attracted to transwomen as partners, most feel any feminization is incongruous to their tastes.
  3. Often, transoriented men seek out passable transwomen with breast augmentation and who have taken considerable hormones to begin, but find with experience they may prefer transwomen in a less altered or femboy state. (This maybe because it€™s not the trappings of femininity that attracts them, but the feminine character.)
  4. It€™s rare that a man who seeks transwomen evolves into seeking gay men.
  5. Transoriented men€™s preference for transwomen tends to grow over time and rarely reverts back to a preference for non-trans women.
  6. There is a category of men who seek transwomen who have some desire to be a transwoman or cross-dresser themselves, but this is not a common trend among transoriented men.
  7. Approximately 20% of transoriented men seek being topped as a preferred form of pleasure with a transwoman.
  8. A considerable percentage (30-50%) of transoriented men don€™t find topping a necessary requirement in a relationship.
  9. Only around 5-10% of transoriented men have a preference for post operative (Sexually Reassigned) transwomen.
 10. Most transoriented men currently keep their interest a secret.
 11. Many transoriented men are or have been married.
 12. Over 95% of transoriented men who like transwomen have never had a serious relationship with one.
 13. Most transoriented men€™s exposure to transwomen has been via Internet pornography and prostitution.
 14. A growing number of men are becoming aware of their transorientation due to internet exposure, pornography in particular.
 15. There is not a great deal known about successful relationships between transoriented men and transwomen, though such relationships are becoming increasingly common.

I admire your chutzpah, and think you are probably somewhere in the ballpark, but I suggest that assigning percentages ("12. Over 95% of transoriented men who like transwomen have never had a serious relationship with one.") is risky business without the back up of a survery.

Perhaps the survey you have highlighted might answer what are pretty interesting questions. FYI I am one of what seems to be a growing number of guys in long term live in relationships who use this forum.

BUMPA: How about running a survey on here to some of the points raised by Transcebu above? I know I would be most interested to see the responses. 100 responses would probably  give a reasonably accurate outcome.

I also cringed a bit when I pulled out some %age estimates, but it's a bit vague to use terms like most and many and so on and I'm always open for people and survey to challenge such estimates. I just wanted to put some thoughts out there and refine them as better information becomes available or other opinions convince me otherwise.

Of course, it depends a lot on who is sampled too. Obviously the viewers of a porn site, or the average escort client will be somewhat different to the rather dedicated and experienced mongers we have here.

I like the idea of some surveys here. I know quite a lot have been done over the years, would also be useful to collate some of the better ones if there is a relatively easy way to do so..... BUMPER?

It is refreshing to see that talk of relationships here is no longer punishable with the 'you're a naive idiot' stick :-) No doubt, such skepticism has it's place, as men can be love-blind fools and many of the ladyboys they meet aren't well suited to serious relationships. That said, my experiences are almost solely of the relationship type and I'm currently in a serious and I believe stable relationship with a transpinay that is well educated and independent with her own business.

I agree with that, it fits in with my own experience as I slide down a slippery (well lubricated) path.

I completed the survey although I thought (like most surveys) the questions were very badly drawn.

I quite agree. I thought Transcebu summed it up very well. And if there are half as many males in the world who like transgendered females as I suspect there are, I think that not only haven't 95% had a relationship with one, they've never even met one.

I base that purely on my own opinion of just how many transoriented men I believe there are. The internet has opened the floodgates for curious guys looking for something new in their sex life. From being a taboo subject, today they can read all about it before they decide they want to sleep with a ladyboy before they die.
