I just went back and read the first 20 posts (including Post 1 which was written by Nang Fa) and have a reaction that is different than yours. I have read many of the Thailand forums including one that is quite popular and have seen many of the disconnected comments of the type that, I believe, you are describing. My impression of this thread and of this board is that the group here is made up of quite a number of caring and considerate folk who, for starters, are smart enough to even understand what you are complaining about.
Despite some of the humor, I think that there is a real effort here to understand the people who we choose to spend time with.

I have to admit - I posted that in a frustrated mood that day, and then went away for business for 2 months. I didn't look in on the forum in that time, as I expected there would be tidal wave of insults towards me to follow, but there weren't. I guess maybe I was generalizing, myself, towards farangs. So, I should admit when I do the same thing I complain about, and keep an open mind, myself.
It's good (if not a little more sad now, after the violence) to be back.

(FB-lover! @ Apr. 10 2010,17:48) That most of the guys on this forum have a sadly difficult time understanding people of other cultures and ages, actually. Seriously, the depressing part of this forum (like all forums, really) is seeing people reinforce each others worst fears about themselves and other people.
I have to admit, I only read the first 10 or so posts, but they were typical boring stuff about what 'all' ladyboys feel in their hearts.
One could say it's being 'wise' - all the talk of how lb's only care about money, blah blah - but negativity isn't wisdom. Part of wisdom is being open to the positive. When I read that stuff from farangs, I see the picture of folks who themselves aren't able to love anyone, and blame it on prostitutes to make themselves feel better about themselves. You know, 'it's not me that goes through life lying to people'...it's always 'them' somehow.
Someone wants to tell me what holidays a place is closed, a pic of a sexy girl or a funny story or speculation about something - it's great. But they want to tell me what's in the heart of someone who's language they don't even speak - let alone know anything real about that person's life - that's just the kind of talk one hears from someone who didn't meet the challenge, and now makes excuses. Not all people here do that, of course! But so so many do.
Sorry that's pretty negative - the first 10 or more posts in this thread sounded pretty insulting towards some people I care about, even if they were meant to be funny on the surface. People are people, anywhere you go - and as OLDER people (as let's face it, most of us are) we have a responsibility to show our bests, not our worst. A ladyboy wants love and safety and acceptance like everyone else in this world - they're not stupid, they know how to spot some loser saying anything to get what he wants. When all they meet are drunken white guys who are afraid to come out of the closet in their home countries, then of course they end up needing to put their better natures aside to deal with it all.
I'm always amazed at how so many farangs here aren't able to understand that.

I've always thought that the discussions about ladyboys on this forum have been 99% thoughtful, intelligent and benevolent towards them.
We aren't all 'experts' so we say what we know or have an opinion on.

but it sure seemed a bit out of place since this thread's tonality from the beginning is not serious at all, all the more so as post #1 was made by a post-op who is a celebrity here!
