Don't want to pollute Karl's EZY thread but thought this is a subject worthy of discussion. Here's a few thoughts.
Think internet promotion is the key to superstardom. Of course the girl needs to be hot but there's lots of hot girls not getting business.
AsianTS made Natalie and Areeya superstars early in the millenium. Now, it's the forums that are making girls superstars, but not nescessarily ladyboy forums.
The Pattaya straight forums have made both Emma and Nicky superstars, though some would say Nicky is Dr Franckenstein's creation. A fair percentage of Pattaya mongers know these girls, no one else comes close to these two.
Without the internet it's not easy. Let's take Pookie, a very popular ladyboy. In 2008, she was strutting her legs on Soi Whitehouse in front of Bar 54 an area without many customers. Then she moved up to the major leagues in the LaBamba lineup and she started getting press. Bumblebee's brilliant thread of Pookie pictures is finally getting her the following she deserves.
The PI girls are good at promoting themselves on forums, but Thai girls aren't. It really takes a farang/ladyboy team to do the promotion correctly and it's generally not in a farang's interest to promote his favorite ladyboy except for the barowners. But once a girl has a following and a mobile full of customers and a few sponsors then she really doesn't need the bars anymore. Friendly girls like Tata and Kwang who keep the guys happy will always have their phone ringing.
I'm not a big fan of superstars. There are dozens of girls just as pretty as the superstars but without the swagger and attitude. The difference is you don't see them on the internet.
