As a freshman in Bkk/pattaya like you buddha7, I would say:

after 1 week in Bangkok: 30%

after 1 week in Pattaya: 70%
+sea (but don't swim in it...) and beach, less diluted fun areas, friendlier LB bars.

I will skip Bkk if there is a next next for me

I rather think you posted in the right thread: la Bamba (ex 131) is as soft as a newbie like me can be. And if you feel a bit overwhelmed, share some thai food with Alis, and talk to the shy Nok behind the bar: they are really smart, friendly, and easy going...
