Not meaning to tread on any toes or pour scorn on what is no doubt a new chapter in a great adventure. Just making a point, and not really for me either. I do understand the financial and security issues. I just feel the across the board cutting off is a tad draconian.

I have a certain ex VIP in mind who should be reinstated as he has certainly paid his dues. Perhaps he has been overLOOKED ( ) as his style has always been somewhat self-effacing...

Tell you what, if the 'powers that be' decide he is back in, then I'll gladly cough up

I'm one of the concierges; looked at two lodging options today.

But not all the great deals make the Forum.   One guy who showed me a small guesthouse that was a great deal asked that I not post on any forums since it might impact him getting a reservation for his next trip.

But I try to find the best deals and post them here.

I don't think so.

VIPs and TR authors are not guaranteed to be trustworthy, and even people personally known to mods and admins are not exempt of suspicion.

There are many reasons why one turns a traitor.
In the world of spies, those reasons are Ideology, Money, Revenge, Ego, Vice.

People who are nice and kind are especially at risk, since they try to please... too much! Those heroes try to get a status, "help", "save" the LBs. "Do you know I paid 50 dollars to show this to you" haha.

Then there are those who want all LBs to think they are the big boss and who threaten: "come for free, or I'll say bad things about you on the secret forum !!!"
"If you don't believe there is a secret forum, here it is!!"  low lives.

etc.

I have been running a transsexual site and forum with over 50000 members for over ten years now, and I *know* most of those types are not detectable, they seem to be fine chaps until their dark side is revealed.
And then it is often the word of a whore against the word of a (still) respected forum member.


So... yes, paid access will help. If there are only 100 or 200 members, there is even a statistical chance that most of the "heroes" will be cut out.

But as I know those guys, they are mentally too absorbed in that stuff to give up easily. Luckily, there are 2-3 other reasonably large forums about LBs, maybe, hopefully, they will divert there and leave TLF.
For a long time I had the one and only forum in French language, so they kept coming back, I had to ban some users over a dozen times, the record is at over 100 usernames for the same user, and he even changed his ISP and paid for the premium version of TOR...

I'm fine with the owners doing whatever they want with their forum, but it should be possible for users not interested in paying for this forum to delete their own contribution. Many users have posted rather personal stories and pictures and IMO it is only fair the users are in control over what they have contributed.

I doubt the pay-thing will be a huge success, but you never know. Best of luck anyways

I'm following this thread with great interest to see how this great experiment turns out. Some observations

There is certainly no explicit promise made by a Forum to a Poster that his posts will always remain in a free area. The law is on the side of the Forum.

The question is whether or not there is an implicit promise? I'm not quite sure of the answer to that one but it seems that this Forum's administration is taking the high road and moving Trip Report threads back to the free public area on request. Bravo!

So what's there to complain about? Something one likes and values is no longer free. If it's important to you then pay the piper. If not, don't pay and continue to access the free area.

Then there's the guys full of bluster who say there out of here and you better delete all their one line "contributions" or else.. On the forum that I own, not ladyboy related, we just delete posts like that. I am amazed at the tolerance of this site's administrators and perplexed why they tolerate this nonesense.

A very well made and logical point. I hadn't looked at it like that, bit you are absolutely correct: it is a club of like-minded individuals. And it does need funding.

Perhaps we can have an LBF tent selling cakes at local school fetes....

In any issue there is always PRO and CON, well I want to make myself clear before getting any furter.....I am not either one of the above. my response here is just purely the "feeling" I have with this Forum for quite sometimes now and I do believed there will be some people disagree with me and there will also some people that certainly have the same feeling like me towards this forum.

You have make things reversibles or upside down, the taker are for free and the giver has to pay.

well, you said, Those bar owners or advertiser here can promote their bars in this site for free!!!

these people (I mean everyone) that has put their trip experience, encounters thru their posting here are required to pay for their posting ....don't. you think this is some kind of reversible or up side downs policy. bars owners have been well known due to the informations given by these members and at the end a lot of newbies will visit their bars for specific girls etc. they make money be it the drinks, the barfine and probably the commision they got from each bf from the girls!!!

banking system: people deposit their money to the bank and bank make use of these money to give loan to other of which they make profit for the interest they received . look what if bank will be posting some kind of depositing charges instead of giving some interest to the depositor....what will happened then... you guess is as good as mine.

Most of the contributing informations of the people posting here is just like their payback for the things they learned here but if they have to pay for their posting and contribution....I think they will have to think it over again.

I agree with you that for some point some people want to have some privacy....but this is internet, you are here to hear from a lot of comments and discussion thats what we called it "FORUM" , probably the approached is a bit different, instead of putting VIP's (that will somehow discriminate in nature against the rest of the members, you may use the word CLUB MEMBER, that you have create something to attract these people around for some kind of so called "privacy".) but you have closed the main door for the rest of the people, so how this people can get in??? not even they can see what they have posted in the past, at least you have to leave those thing for them , these are their contributions.

at the end, I can see something around here, this poor people wanted to keep it going will either put their posting somewhere around than the usual "TRIP REPORT" portion or they just faided away with big disappointment.

Well this is just only my suggestions and I wish you all the best for this new policy.

if you need to raise funds by charging money for contributors then why not charge the likes of Ezy Bar, Pattaya Bay Resort etc. etc for the advertising you give them.
