Ray Davies of 60s band The Kinks and his brother dabbled in that era/70s I think I am sure there was something about this in a tv programme in the 1990s, not to mention the song 'Lola', which also raises questions about Van Morrison and 'Madam George', and the all-time classic Walk on the Wild Side' by Lou Reed which was partly about Holly Woodlawn and Candy Darling.

My guess is that rock stars could easily get away with it, but not sports stars.
