Most Thais have a far less permissive outlook on sex, crime and getting pissed up than you assume. To say they don't see lying (precept 4) as incorrect behaviour is incorrect. Try to get a Thai to bad-mouth anyone... very difficult to do.

If the girls you know and the thais you know dont at least make an attempt to follow the precepts above then they have lost their way and probably thier family.

Back to an earlier point: Find a good girl and get to know her family. If it's a good family and they are still a unit chances are she is a good girl.

      My pal Lefty, who I haven't seen in years but is still a friend, says this is all BS and that poverty should never lead to dishonesty; but let me ask a hypothetical again.... say you find out your cash will run dry in 6 months; no more pension, no bank accounts, nothing. You have 2 options; go back to america and work some low-wage blue-collar job you hate just to survive and be poor, OR; some older Thai lady offers you to stay in her Jomtien villa free of charge and support you if you screw her now and again and you can continue living the life you enjoy now.  Which would you choose? Be honest; and if it's option  B then you are no different from the LB's we are talking about.

    Thanks to thick81 for his 2 cents.....I enjoyed reading that post and I also enjoyed hanging with you when we used to all those years ago, you're a great guy.  Unfortunately, as we have discussed, you can't live in thailand right now due to your job! So trying to have a cute Thai LB in a long-distance relationship is very very difficult, but I wouldn't lump you in with the sponsorship- fools catagory as you are smarter than those guys; you're just someone who has tried the long-distance thing and realized it's nearly impossible, and as Gizmo says nearly every guy has tried it.   The best thing for part-timers like you is to just wait until living full-time with your loved one in Thailand is possible, same as socrates and stogie, etc..... and that day will come soon I am sure.

       You know, threads like this one are bad for the LB's  but good for the farangs; IF they read and heed the advice.  So in  a way I hate to add in too much, as I have a lot of LB friends and want to see them have good lives; and if they can find sponsors, good for them {but hopefully people from outside this board}.  But my loyalty also lies in protecting and helping falangs who used to by my customers and friends, to let them know that if they try and buck the system they do so at their own peril and will usually end up getting burned, broke and broken-hearted.
