this is the age-old debate, and here is what I think of the 2;
Many guys may disagree with this and many may not, but
that's the good thing about boards like this one; we can all voice
our opinions.
To me Phuket is the better of the 2. Perhaps 5 years ago,
when Pattaya was open all night and you could troll walking street
or the beach road until 5 or 6 AM and hang out with the trash,
but now that Thaksin has pretty much closed down the country at
2AM, I believe that Patong beach is better and here is why;
For one thing, The beaches are better. Most of us need something
to do during the day before we go out and drink and screw, and there
is a better selection of beaches and waterfalls on Phuket that you
can enjoy, all within a 1/2 hour ride from the action in Patong,
which also has a decent beach to hang out on, miles ahead of
Pattaya bay which is so warm and the water is oftentimes filled with
trash. Take a 'cycle and cruise the coastal road that follows the
Andaman sea as you go by Kamala, Bang Tao and Surin beaches; you
will feel like you are in Hawaii.
The beer bars are better in Phuket for ladyboys. There are 3 at
the entrance to Soi Andaman Queen, and 1 under the Tiger disco that
just opened named Cocktails and Dreams. Between these 4, you have
about 50-60 available ladyboys every night of the week and you are
bound to find one or 2 that please you. The bar fines are 200 Baht
and in any case, most of the girls are freelancers and if you just
take them away the bar won't even notice and you pay nothing. In
Pattaya, you have the Linda bar, which is filled with over aged
tired -looking ladyboys, and you have the Jenny star, which has a
few decent-looking ones but they seem to be pretty snooty and the
music there is horrible. The Mr.99 is a cool place, but it's not
really a beer bar and you have to wait until 12 to take your date
home.
Phuket has a great area called the Royal Paradise complex.
this is a horseshoe-shaped place, and there are about 15 gay bars in
there, and 3 of them have cabaret shows with some nice-looking
ladyboys. The Koh Joy, Tangmo, and My Way have about 10-15 girls per
place each night and some of them are hotties. There is also the
great Simon Cabaret, and the girls there are actually approachable,
unlike the girls at the Alcazar and the Tiffany, where maybe 1 out
of 5 speak decent english.
Pattaya is a great place, believe me; there is nothing like it
in the west and i will always go there for a few days and check it
out when I am in Thailand. But, by the time you take a taxi to
Ekamai, get on the bus, get there and check in and relax, it takes
about 3 or 4 hours from bangkok. In the same amount of time, you
could be on a plane from the airport and in phuket and have a
better place to spend your time for a week.
You guys that have never gone to Phuket and have always just been
to Pattaya, try it out sometimes. There are a lot of ladyboys there
and some great nightlife; the beaches are superb and the seafood is
great, and the place is not as tacky as Pattaya overall.
We have 2 great updates about this place from september 20
and also from March 27. And, i hear through the grapevine
that there may be another massive update coming from
"Shemale Island" in september; shhhh, it's just a rumor.
