i was just there in Nov. and was planning to be there again in late Feb. but it doesn't seem like the area is going to allow tourist for a while. the news reports are saying over 300 died in thialand. patong is very flat for at least a 1l4 of a mile before it goes up hill. the destruction would be to all the bars and shoreline stores. i have not been able to contact the people i know there, so i know it must be very bad. the only good news is that it didn't happen at night when the bars were full.

Very true! Could you imagine that happening about 7 hours earlier at this time of year!

I have to change now my planings, i have booked for Wednestday a flight to Bangkok, then i did want go to Phuket/Patong. Now the best is to stay in bangkok or to go to Pattaya. But i am sure for Pattaya is then the best season, many tourists will come now to Pattaya. I think the C&D will be closed for some time. Where will the the beautys going?
Or do have anyone some other ideas where to go for lb´s?

your best bet now is Pattaya and Bangkok; those 2 cities will be teeming with ladyboys now. In Pattaya go to Soi 6, the Hi-Boss bar; very cool place and 20-30 ladyboys every night, including Beam.

In Thailand the latest figure is just over 300!

looks like the best place in the world will need some rebuilding

" Helicopters and ships were sent to assess the damage in a region of exotically shaped limestone islands scattered in the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea and popular with snorkellers and divers among Thailand's annual 12 million tourists.

Government officials said more than 4,000 foreign and Thai tourists were stranded on Ko Phi Phi, the tiny island off Krabi made famous by the 2000 film "The Beach" starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

"The huge wave rolled in, at least 10 metres high. It was at first eerily quiet with winds moving ahead of it. Coconut trees in its path did not collapse, they just flew away. I told my wife and mother to turn and run for our lives," said a 35-year-old construction worker living on the island.

"We managed to survive by scaling a coconut tree and even at near its top, the rushing water rose to our chests. The whole island was flattened in a flash. Boats were hurled up, smashed against trees, and snapped into pieces. The only things left standing were coconut trees," he said."

damned shame, eh Oz? especially hard to see for the people who have been going tp Patong for years; it looks like a war zone. this pic below is soi "Kathoey"; for those that have never been to Patong, this stage in front usually has 3 or 4 different ladyboys dancing on it for 5 hours a night, and 30 or 40 more roaming around this alley looking for dates. this WAS a great place.....lets hope they can rebuild.
