@ fOxxee: I think you're spot on. I don't think an LTR is easy and one would be very lucky to find one that is more about mutual caring than about the transaction of things required (i.e money, opportunity, visa for sex).

But hey, if you find someone you care about who lives a shitty life of little hope, what's wrong with trying to help them out in life until they're independent (job and western visa)? Whether or not they will stay after that I've got little idea, though I'm prepared for the possibility they'd want to play around, much as most of us wanted to do at the same age.

FWIW I'm about 40 and ok looking. I guess the age difference and looks can be a factor in the likelihood of LTRs working out. A 30yo good looking guy probably having a much better chance than a 60yo covered in warts. But I guess that's just common sense.

So far the variables are; Money, age difference, commitment, money, looks, cash, being together, gifts, her economic status, money, p4p or not p4p girl, Thai or PI, their character, their intelligence, money and.... wait, there was one more thing, what was it?.... oh, that's right, MONEY!  

btw: Not really a Neighbours or TV watcher. I can't relate to the world that is portrayed in those shows.

Ok, I don't want to debate the semantics of insults v opinions, let me just agree with you that I'm not very experienced with Thai LBs, nor with PI ones for that matter when compared to many here.

But I wasn't aware that LTR or what one may call love was a western notion? I've only dated one non-asian in my life and lived over a quarter of my adult life in Asia, and while there are definitely some differences in the requirements for love and the way it is discussed in Asia, it is still pretty much a universal theme and one that I haven't discovered out of a few Mills and Boon novels.

What love is, how it deludes us, and what it can really give us is hard to decifer. There can even be great relief in abandoning the quest to know it.

To read Kahlil Gibran on Love ( http://www.katsandogz.com/onlove.html ) you would see that he offers a warning more dire in ways than yours, so I'm under no notion that it is a journey paved with gold, but under the belief that the rewards will be worth the pain.

Anyway, now that I've romanced you, let me ask you why is it such a common theme on dating sites, by PI LBs in particular, for them to seek a LTR and someone who can love them? Is this just their worm that catches the biggest fish or do you think some of them really are hoping to find love and a LTR?
