Transgender Contestant on Top Model

One of the 14 girls who will compete on the new season of America's Next Top Model €“ which returns to The CW on September 3 €“ is transgender.

"My cards were dealt differently," Isis, a 22-year-old former receptionist, tells Us Weekly exclusively in its new issue, on newsstands now.

Hailing from Prince George's County, Maryland, Isis identifies herself as "a woman born physically male."

Will she be a role model?

"I like to help people, but I'm here to follow my dreams," she tells Us.

The inclusion of Isis is being hailed by GLAAD president Neil Giuliano as "an unprecedented opportunity for a community that is underrepresented on television.

"We applaud Tyra Banks and The CW for making this historic visibility of transgender people possible," Giuliano said.

I've never seen this show  -  nor do I have any inclination to.        
(Sorry Mirimark but this sort of TV holds no interest for me.)

Being entirely cynical  -  is this program suffering falling ratings?

Don't get me wrong - I really do hope she does well.
If she does perhaps it will help to reduce some of the prejudice that is apparent in news reports from the US.

I remember a few years ago there was a show called "there's something about Miriam" basically there are 12 males trying to get hooked up with Miriam only catch is they didnt know she was a pre op shemale. She is 100% passable as well.

Tyra Banks to surprise Marylander Isis with sex reassignment surgery
Isis King (left), the first transgender contestant on America's Next Top Model, will receive a sex reassignment surgery courtesy of The Tyra Banks Show, US Magazine reports.

The episode, which airs tomorrow, gives viewers a little more insight into King, who was born Darrell Walls. The 22-year-old hadn't received the surgery because of the high costs ($20,000 to $35,000).

"It's hard. I try not to think about it because it is something I'm really passionate about," she says on the clip. "I feel like I really was born in the wrong body, and it's just the one thing that makes me feel uncomfortable."

King is the Prince George's County resident who was eliminated almost midway through the current cycle of Top Model. King was extremely strong in the beginning of the season. (Tyra Banks and company basically hand-picked her to be on the show after Isis appeared on a fashion shoot last season.) But as the season progressed, Isis struggled with her confidence. (She was eliminated after failing the produce a stunning photo during a shoot that required her to pose in the water. She told the judges that she was worried about her man parts falling out of her bathing suit.)
