(jadeite @ Jul. 18 2008,22:51) But now in 2008 isn't bandwidth just about free? For a few bucks a month many hosting companies offer a terabyte of bandwidth or higher like godaddy and some even offer unlimited bandwidth like yahoo for instance.
Bandwidth is not free... Anyone offering unlimited bandwidth will limit your port speed or throttle your throughput. Try pulling 50 Mbit on one of these hosts... LOL! Also they will use cheap bandwidth like Cogent that overload their routers and have huge packet loss.

Yahoo and Godaddy will not host anything adult.

I'm so with you on that one Ms.Naang Faa.

I'm having enough trouble figuring what the hell I can or cannot do with my own computer, and I see all this talk about proxies and servers and what-not.

I just want to see like minded people (mostly) posting about a passion we all share.

On a side note, as a scouser, still think this will finally be THE season?

I know we risk being completely off topic, but I will anyway, much to the moderators disgust, I'm sure.

Loved how your rich history coincided with the historical chase of being the best club in the country, and may I be so bold as to suggest that we'll draw even in 2 Mays time. Then we'll share the same boast.

And to add to that, I'm completely stumped as to how to respond with any semblance of wit to your retort, all I can offer is and a parting shout out of "Barry! Barry? Barryyyyy..........."

We're back! We will be banning the 'cheap charlies' like China and a lot of other countries who don't have credit cards, but we'll be installing proxies first so the few people out there in wogga wogga land will be able to get back in!

(JaiDee @ Jul. 18 2008,08:41) Stogie may choose to ban China once he see's his BW bill for the first month..... those guys sit around in those large gymnasium-like internet cafe's all around the country and view [and share] pics of ladyboys all day and night, driving up bandwidth costs to amazing figures and of course never paying a cent.
interesting that these guys actively advertise their China-blocking capability as their foremost feature

                  http://downloads.zdnet.com/abstrac....nl.e550

internet access was cheap as chips when I lived there and there is no concept of IP (intellectual property - not internet protocol) in China - nobody is willing to pay for something they can't physically hold in their hands (probably can't afford to either)

Strangely, whereas the government insisted on blocking google.com, google.ie (my homepage at the time) was accessible. Got loads of amazed looks from people who saw me accessing google when they couldn't. Not sure if they still block google.com
                  No honey, no money!!

I think you mean more like if someone wanted "Bobs personal 3-page website" or something, but this is a bit more involved.
No, I don't. You sound like you are stuck 10 or 15 years in the past. A few bucks a month in 2008 gets you a terabyte of bandwidth or so, 100 gigs or so of disk space, and outfitted with a whole array of bells and whistles.

Anyone offering unlimited bandwidth will limit your port speed or throttle your throughput.
Of course there are unreliable web hosts, but there are also excellent hosting companies. Godaddy for example is one of the largest and most reputable hosting sites in the world. If they say they will give you a terabyte of bandwidth for a few bucks a month then I think it is safe to say that is exactly what you will get. And if that isn't enough, they will sell you as many additional terabytes as you want. If you you can saturate a 50mbit connection 24/7, that works out to 16 terabytes of bandwidth. And yahoo says they are now unlimited without any asterisks (surely there must be some limit however). But someone did mention CPU load and that could indeed be an issue.

Yahoo and Godaddy will not host anything adult.
Right, I have no idea if adult hosting prices differ substantially from other hosting prices.

All I am saying is shared hosting is night and day between now and before. It's like comparing an ancient 486 PC that cost thousands of dollars 15 years ago with the cheap PC's of 2008 that are light years better.

Well the new server seems nice as the forum is lots quicker now.

No he€™s totally right€¦ these $10 a month shared hosting accounts might give you disk space and 1000 gigs of bandwidth a month but you€™re sharing a server with many other users. You€™re account is only allowed a limited amount of server resources. Even just a forum like this would quickly deplete the allowable CPU capacity and users would start to see denied connections.  €œServer too Busy€ This forum runs on a huge MySQL database that€™s right now using 25% of a Dual Core CPU€¦ really try running that on a shared server.

This is Adult Hosting€¦. Not some Church site that gets 50 hits a day. This is what Godaddy hosts€¦
Adult sites get hit hard and see mass traffic 24/7 and serving streaming videos you need your own servers. We sustain 50 Mbit continually and we have burstable bandwidth to 1000Mbit. We have some serious hardware here running things because it€™s what€™s required.  One of the main reasons Godaddy and Yahoo won€™t touch Adult Hosting is not because of the content€¦ it€™s because of the mass traffic and special requirements.

I take it you're in China? There is no Geo blocking on this server 'yet' and it'll be up to Stogie if he wants that. The problem most porn sites have with China is they come in droves and suck up all your bandwidth... and the Chinese really seem to like Ladyboys![/quote]
Yep, in china .. and the forum is now faster then google here

I will be happy and enjoy it as long as I can (proxies tend to slow things down quite a bit) But I understand if SB wants to block it in China and save some bandwidth.

Maybe some day they will start to pay ... "China had more than 104.73 million credit cards in circulation at the end of March 2008, up 92.9 percent since a year ago" http://www.shanghaidaily.com/sp....455.htm

Bam and myself (Stogie) aren't rushing in to anything, so as long as the forum is working well then I'm guessing we'll leave it as it is...

We are working on a members only proxy which we'll tell you about soon...

We had our first Chinese poster this morning.

As his two posts were completely off topic and totalled about 6 words I deleted them. No I don't normally do that!

Somehow I don't think he was likely to be a regular poster/and or sign up for any websites.

                                excellent!

capitalism is really taking off in that craphole it seems...well, at least in the cities; I am sure in the country where 1 BILLION of those people live in abject poverty most people would have no idea what a credit card is, let alone a computer.

Now, can we get some of those 104 Million to join porno websites, please?
