I also prefer a hotel that has an electronic four digit pin safe that's securely bolted. I would assume that only the owner and senior hotel staff would have access in case of emergency.

yet one more reason to Stay at The Omni Towers for 2400/night; 10 minute walk to Nana Plaza, all rooms are suites, friendly staff with no guest hassles, AND; small safes in every room that you can set with your own 4-digit password. I have kept as much as 100K baht in there before and felt very , ummmmm, safe.

I dont think anyone but a senior staff in a regular hotel in Bkk has access to the electonic safes normally in rooms......Ive never heard of any one losing anything from a safe in their room......

I always do as wisetraveller suggests.....cant think why anyone wouldnt..... and I never get drunk and drive....which seems to lead to all kinds of problems for some...

Someone made the point that hotel staff have access to your room safe. (although I have never lost anything from a safe). But, if this is so that just about robs us of our only line of defence. Any alternative suggestions anyone???

Take all the common precautions, use good sense, don't put your trust in a pay for play girl. Yet despite all this it is still going to happen to some of us. The fault, dear friends, lies partly at our own feet. We come to Thailand, become seduced by its charming women/ladyboys and loose sight of the fact they only view us as a "cash cow." We buy in to the myth that this is the Land Of Smiles and that the ladys will give us something that is missing from our lives outside of Thailand. Ain't so guys, in Thailand, it"s a dog eat dog world and I for one do not want to be a milkbone. Final words, just remember who you are dealing with and act and behave accordingly. Thailand is a great place regardless.

I have a simple rule.  Always get a hotel room with a safe.  Anything attractive (cash, wallet, cards, passport, camera, sunglasses, etc) is in the safe before the cutie gets in the room.  I only go out with cash in my pocket.  (no need for sunglasses and cameras in a nighttime bar).  When she enters the room she usually goes to the bathroom first.  As soon as she is in there my I quickly put all my cash in the safe and take off my watch and pop that in also.  After that I can breathe easily and not need to even think about security for the rest of the night.  When it comes to paying her I simply open the safe and take out the appropriate amount.

Simple, relaxing, safe.  The trick is to remember to do it even with a few beers under the belt.

Just common sense only Wisetraveller why it so difficult for some peoples. I you hotel room don't have the safe in the room you just do the same thing and use the reception safe.
If I have a doubt about my cutie I simply ask her to give me her ID card and this document go to the safe as well till next morning if she don't accept this arrangement she go back to her working bar. and I get another girl for the night.

Hey, funny story about theft.

Gat calls me most nights to see how I am if she doesn't see me at the bar. About 2 weeks went by when I wasn't at the bar and strangely I hadn't received the usual phone calls from Gat so I assumed she was probably in Singapore as she goes there often. Eventually I'm back at the bar and see her. She tells me the following story.

The day after I'd last seen her she went home with a Japanese man (many ladyboys prefer Asian men as they say they have smaller dicks which is a good thing for a ladyboy that's getting poked up the shiter for a living). Also notice that she points out that it was "the day after I'd last seen her" at the bar as the topic of conversation that night was how she hadn't had a customer in a long time and then quickly went towards her wanting me to take her home.

Anyway, after the dirty deed is done with her small endowed friend, he pays her handsomely before she goes into the bathroom to shower (ladyboys often shower BEFORE they have sex with you to wash off the scent of the last man they had that night, and AFTER they are finished so they are fresh for the next man). She exits the restroom, gets dressed, thanks him and leaves. She didn't say, but I'm sure we can bet that he thanked her too. She arrives back at the bar and reaches into her purse to check the time on her phone. NO PHONE! Her phone is no where to be found! She then looks to see if all her money is there and it's ALL GONE!

So, basically, she just PAID this guy to fuck her up the ass! My sympathy was a bit lacking as I couldn't stop laughing as she told me this story.

Yes, I've traveled around a bit before coming to Thailand and I must say that this country is much safer than other places--a hell of a lot safer than the States which is where I'm from!  

Most hotels will either have a safe behind the front counter or in the rooms.  Of course, I'd prefer one in the room.  Ask before you book.  That is where you will store your passport, plane tickets, credit cards, ATM cards, extra cash, etc.

As a very last option, leave your wallet in your pants pocket with only a little cash in it and stuff your cards, cash, passport, deep into your shoe and then stuff your stinky socks on-top of that.  I've done this on occasion when I've found myself staying at someone else's place unexpectedly.

I have heard about a ladyboy in Cebu who stole stuff from a hotel...she was either found out by hotel staff or the guest himself who brought her up to his room....her picture was posted in the lobby or something I heard and she was banned from the hotel..I forgot who she was...

it's a good thing theft us very rare among ladyboys here in cebu...

oh my god.......does that happens all the time? are there a lot of thieves in thailand? i cant believe it and to think they are ladyboys.........
