Cowboy, Nana, Patpong to be closed

That's what Khun Pluem said he would do if he is elected to be the next mayor of Bangkok. I listened to him on a talk show last night talking about himself and his ideas for improving Bangkok. He is still young and has fresh ideas, not like the old politicians who have been absorbed into the system and all say the same things. He also has a good idea of how Thailand is viewed by the rest of the world. And because of places like Cowboy, Nana and Patpong it is embarrassing. That's one of the things he would do right away, shut those places down. He has the independence and power to do it, too. He is a member of the royal family and not indebted to anyone. Khun Pluem says he wants to get elected and change things now, before he is over 40 and starts to slide into the same rut as the old guys. He will get my vote.

He'll be walking alongside a motorbike where the rider and pillion passenger have black full faced helmets before any of this ever happens!

Being related to the royal family doesn't mean you can march around the gaff installing the will of the people. There are vested interests that always trump such silly ideas...

...still, it's a nice way to go about being elected!

The consequences of this guys campaign, should he be elected, are not worth contemplating.

First, shut down the obvious venues, then where do they turn ...... the websites?

Before anything happens though he should explain to the millions who rely on the P4P business exactly how he intends to feed & house them.

One more do-gooder with better intention than sense.

Still, we must hope he isn't elected, one day one of these guys will prevail.

Good point... the knock on effect of these farang watering holes feed tens of thousands of people all over the country... but only a few of them actually vote for Bangkok mayors (or indeed live in Bangkok!)

I enjoy these double standards though. Prostitution is a way of life on every street in every town in Thailand and this Bangkok mayoral candidate wants to essentially eliminate (or relocate!) about 0.0001% of it for a handful of votes from a largely unconcerned electorate.

Let me see if I have this straight, the guy NEVER once uttered the word Soi Cowboy, Nana, or Patpong. Yet someone concocted a topic listing these 3 places specifically. This is just someone trying to shock people using speculation on speculation. He never said that--end of story.

Sounds like Chinese whispers... The Asian Sweetheart blog probably isnt the fount of true knowledge for a start and i bet the truth has been twisted along the route. I have been hearing these stories since 1990 about the next chief in charge is going to rub out the sex industry.. nah... not in this place...

In South East Asia these days there is generally only one winner in these scenarios.. ..greed!

Anyway, Bangkok won't change because the royal family is part of the process.
