(PigDogg @ Jun. 08 2008,02:18) Dress however you want.

Some guys enjoy dressing smart so should do so. Others prefer super causal which is OK too.

Key thing is to wear clean clothes, take lots of showers, and use mouthwash.
I'm with PigDogg on this one

I am no expert but based on my experiences in 30 years of visiting Thailand I actually think how you dress makes some difference in how the girls and certainly the general Thai public behave toward you. If you don't belive me just go to Pattaya Immigration and look at the clueless poorly dressed tourists that go there. They even put up a sign asking people to dress properly. Wearting a tank top, shorts, and sandals with no socks to a goverment office full of bored and frustrated officials who are responsible for for your visa is not putting you best foot foward.

Basically an "acceptable or polite" ( I am not sure of the correct term) dress code is a shirt with a collar, long pants ( denim or khakis), and leather or athletic shoes. Pattaya being by the beach is more casual by day and shorts, t-shirts, and sandals are fine. At a Fairtex stadium muay thai fight in Pattya recently out of 30 Thai men, only 2 wore t-shirts and no one wore shorts.

In Bangkok shorts are generally worn by children and construction workers or at home. Wearing tank tops or going shirtless in Bangkok isn't considered polite but the Thais are polite and are pretty tolerant of farangs doing this especially in the tourist areas.

How does this relate to the topic? In my opinion and experience showing up at night in a go-go bar or disco in the acceptable Thai "uniform" moves you way up in terms of desirability as a customer. I have found this to be especially true for GG's just starting to work in a bar & generalizing I suppose it carries over to LB's as well. I have also found it to help in clubs like Lucifer, Marine 1, Nana Hotel disco, Bed Bar, etc.... . This also applies when trying to meet "non-working" GG's or LB's at a mall or on the skytrain.

Sit at the Big Dog Bar and have a beer about 7:30 or 8:00PM and watch the tourists going in and how they are dressed. If you were working in a bar or free lancing would you be more inclined to "choose" or go with the "better dressed" farang over the guy who is wearing Croc's with no socks, camo shorts and a t-shirt/tank top all bought on Sukhumvit that they identify as a "Cheap-Charlie" uniform. Yes, I know, many will say more money will overcome anything and it is mostly true but there were times where I have had girls at bars go with me over other customers based on their judgement of my apperance. I see this more in disco/nightclubs venues. The longer the GG or LB has worked the more they are used to the frang in shorts, etc but it can still make a difference.

Obviously this is just my opinion and YMMV.

On gold necklaces and bracelets- If you present yourself as a "successful" person (whatever that means) Thais would think it a little unusual if you aren't wearing a gold necklace. (I was married to a Thai girl for 8 years and when first met my in-laws and extended faimily in the small town where they lived, one aunt asked why I wasn't wearing any gold. My wife replied that "I wasn't into that kind of stuff." When she told me this, I told her to tell them my Rolex watch was worth $2500. My wife replied, "Be serious, no watch is worth that much." This give you a little insight into the Thai mind and what the girls are thinking, upcountry Issan girls are not that sophisticated.} Wearing gold improves your standing in their eyes. It is a 2 edged sword however and I found the girls "expected" more money so I quit wearing it to bars. Now with the price of gold way up and the consequent increase in necklace snatchings /armed robberies in Pattaya to both farangs and Thais I stopped wearing gold all together.

If they aren't already using this dress code at night, a BM could try it for awhile and see if they experience any positive changes. It may get you in the door more easily, after that, attitude and generousity and other factors come into play.

                Good luck

(sev7en @ Jun. 07 2008,14:42) Theres no point in dressing up in Bkk, your clothes will just be ruined. I fkin hate makeup and lipstick on my shirts, especially when they don´t use hot water for the laundry.
Fuck me if I didnt put on a short sleeved  shirt today with ,guess what, fucking make up all over the shoulder, from My last night in BKK & it had been washed with hot water.

                  See Sev7en ,still learning LOL

I agree with you. Your clothes makes some different in the bordello and even more so in the nightclubs. But the question is do you care what they think of you? Money is still no1, and there isnt a hooker in Nana that will turn down 2k because you´re wearing camo shorts. Sure they will have an opinion of you based on a few factors where your clothes is one, but do you care.
At The Tunnel, BedSupper or Boss it´s more "important" what you wear if you wanna score.
In Pattaya fashion doesn´t exist. No point in wearing something nice there.

True my friend , the catwalks of Paris and Milan don't really spring to mind when you think of walking street , especially when the Russians are going disco dancing

I was careful to wear kakhis and a collared shirt when going to both Pattaya Immigration and the US Embassy. But I wore sandals out of habit.

But point well taken, next time I'll put on the shoes for the extra edge.

Always dress smart. Not for anyone else, but for me.
Always get complementary comments on the way I dress but that is by the by.
One time due to being a lazy fucker and not going back to the hotel to freshen up, I showed up in a t-shirt (not a scruffy one), jeans and trainers and one lb told me I looked younger!

I never wear shorts unless I am at the beach or doing sports..

                                Sandals - I've never owned a pair.
