I was at a beauty pageant on Mactan Island in February and heard this response from a ladyboy contestant who had  been asked whom she would be voting for in the upcoming  local and national elections;

          "I think that any person who thinks they are eligable for the job of being the president of the Philippines should be able to address the problem of corruption and graft in our government that takes place on a daily basis.  I would ask him  what would be his economic platform for the future of our beautiful country, and how he  would go about addressing the instability in government and the rising unemployment figures which plague our country's youth.  I would also want to know what is his position on us gay's, and how we would hopefully be treated better in a fair and well-balanced  society".

      Oh, Really?   funny, just before I left Thailand  to go there I was  asking a  ladyboy what she would like to do for the evening and her response was  "up to you".

  I think that's the difference.

JD ... it's disappointing how you talk about Thais. Finally the girls work and they are interested in to make the bucks ... so do I at my job. You will find also LB's non-working and they even would not pose for the site ... lots of them with brains. So I would see the difference between PI and Thai somewhere different....abd simply the ethnic.

you know how I feel about these  Thai ladyboys, Chili, and I am not trying to rip on them.... there would be no site at all if not for them and as I have stated numerous times up here I like 99% of the girls I have met and worked with [the 1%  you don't wanna know about, believe me].  Their beauty is unrivaled and they are all just so......nice!!   I won't deny any of that.   But I have only been able  to carry on a real conversation with  less than about 10 of the Thai ladyboys I have met, and I know quite a few.    My trip to the PI made me realize that there are ladyboys out there who can not only attract me physically but intellectually as well.  Yes, the non-working ladyboys you speak of are certainly the cream of the crop in Thailand and I am sure there are many and  they would be fun to hang with, but as we have discusssed ad nauseum up here,  where do we meet them??   I know I am 'looking in all the wrong places' and my job certainly introduces me to some lowlifes,  but I have only met a handful of ladyboys  who could challenge me outside of my   bedroom in 6 years of looking in Thailand; in the PI I met many many girls like that in just 23 days.

I said it b4, and I'll say it again. PI girls have a love of language. If you like the romance, the chase, and the flirting, then PI girls have it over all other asian girls.

I was told it has to do with the long time PI was a spanish colony. PI's are very romatic people. In this regard, they beat the Koreans for example, who have always struck me as very much "down to business."

JD ... I know it. One of the biggest problems in Thailand is really the language. I have been working several years for Thai companies, comunication was a disaster. Now in Malaysia it's much better, lot's of the girls have a good english, but also here you get this 'up to you' attitude and again it comes mostly from the girls which work and are interested in nothing else than doing their job.

I think it goes much deeper than the language, really.

Thais, by and large, are a very non-introspective, almost anti-intellectual, people. For a variety of cultural reasons such as saving face, respect for people of older age, and so on, topics of conversation are generally kept very light. For people wanting to really connect on heavy topics or even deeply analyze issues or relational problems, this can be frustrating.

So, whereas with a typical Pilipina, you may find yourself talking about politics or art or even philosophy, with a typical Thai it will more often than not be food, weather, gossip, and how handsome or lovely person X is.

These are generalization, to be sure, but I say this having lived here for more than a decade and with near fluent Thai skills. I'm not boasting, but just trying to point out that lack of Thai is probably not at the core of what Jai Dee is getting at. Of course, lack of language skills does, however, make things even worse.

In general, Thailand is a great place for a person who likes to keep things light. If fun, appreciating lovely LBs, and lots of smiles is what you want (and that is more than enough for most holidaymakers and even many expats), this is your place.

If you want to intellectually connect, discuss the plot lines of movies, and make mutual decisions about this and that, then you may better of heading for Japan, the Phillipines, Taiwan, etc.

Generalizations, I know, but they charcterize most of my experiences here in LOS.

Frankly, I'm more like a Thai - My answer to the burning topics of the day is "up to you!"

Politicions should be left alone to do what they do best - stealing tax payers money - and I would similarly like to be left alone to make enough beer coupons to get drunk at the weekend!

Agree about the politicians, Stogie, but my observations above were about Thais in general, and not LBS per se. 95% or more of the Thais I meet are not in the nightlife industry. Most are office people, etc. Just thought I'd clarify.

Also - I understood your post 100%. I think it's too easy to castigate ten thousand people after meeting a handful of them.

The girls I have met in the entertainment field I generally like - but my expectations from them are minimal so I tend to just enjoy them at a surface level. Nothing wrong with that. I think many of them don't want anything more either!

But I like the people I work with also and for different reasons. Also there are questions about life and stuff that I would ask them that I wouldn't ask a streetwalker!

As an added point - I also know Thais and that includes ladyboys) that are NOT on the game that are entirely indifferent to the issue of politics. The Thai culture is a generally shallow one and I don't know for sure, but I would expect the PI population whatever their gender or vocation to be more sophisticated.

Never come to China Mainland,I discover there must be some ladyboys around here but no one of them speaks a word of English,only Chinees.So,I can forget it and just hope to be able of travelling soon to other countries,because I feel very alone and just have my dreams here.
