I entirely agree. It's not something we make a habit of in this forum and we do have this competition every year.

In fact the very point of doing this plays a valuable part in raising awareness to the hazards of this idiotic festival. The topic title does say that it is a 'Bad Taste' thread.

Are we the bad guys for playing guessing games about how many people (the government says) will get killed?

Part of the reason that so many people feel powerless and exasperated about every day things they have no control over is that they are too scared to even lodge a complaint!

Songkran is an insane and deadly time of year. This thread won't change the death count, unless you read it and think twice about going - maybe.

This 'poll' wasn't ever meant to be anything other than a bit of fun...

Thais will do what they do - nothing we can do will change that. If you do stupid things in life then stupid results will occur!

The real bet shouldn't be how many will die, but how many will be reincarnated in their "next life" - and will they come back as ladyboys.

I can't get that excited over how many Thais will die by electrocuting themselves or crashing their motorbikes with 5 people on them, the whole country is already in the Darwin Awards - but any stories about stupid foreigners/tourists/expats doing the same, is always fun.
