This reminds me of a scene from one of the best war movies ever made Saving private Ryan.

The group looking for Private Ryan are sorting through piles of bloodied dog tags whilst other soldiers march past an observe their actions of throwing down the rejected names of the dead. Suddenly Tom Hanks playing the captain realizes the enormity of their actions and the effect on those witnessing the inhumanity of their comrade in arms.

I think we need a similar moment here and stop this now.

Maybe if your favourite LB is badly injured, disfigured or worse would that bring home the reality of a road traffic accident .

Maybe its because we are farang and distanced
geographically from the counrty we can be so detached from people being killed, disabled or injured.

Maybe worse even some people who call themselves
ladyboy lovers are also Thai haters only interested in the welfare of those Thai's who can accomodate their particular sexual preference and have no regard for anybody else.

It is right to warn people about the increased danger during Songkran and in turn hope to reduce accidents
but to then turn it into this death lottery is wrong on any level.
Without doubt it is also incredibly disrespectful to all Thai people and the many like myself who have an affinity to a wonderful people and culture.
Their is much more to Thailand than drink and sex.

Yes agreed, but life is way to serious & No one means any disrespect, I mean come on ,no one loves thailand or Thais more then Naang Faa.At the end of the day when your times up it's up, just make sure you have had the craic on the way ! Lets face it ,it could be one of us that ends up dead.

Western logic dictates that the numbers should be lower.

Therefore Thai logic is that the number should be higher.

The trend is down size the official figure so my guess is that 281 unfortant souls will depart this mortal relm.

What do any of you think the chances are that when the final toll is published, some Thais will use the numbers for the lottery, they seem to look for luck in some strange places.

A friend of mine lives with a Thai girl, the security man asked her for the lottery numbers based on the simple reason he believed a ghost lived in their room. Freaked her out, and pissed him off as you can imagine.

could be counter intuitive... during the first world war the amount of head injuries on the walking wounded increased after they introduced the tin hat...

why you ask...well before the helmet anyone who got a bullet in the head was killed outright and buried. Now they survived due to the dent in the helmet  but with a nasty head injury. Maybe some nasty side effect of banning high pressure hoses will create another peril...

They don't count Burmese either! I just found out 54 suffocated in a container between Ranong and Phuket last week with very little media coverage.
