Not as much as I'd like to.
Got a little burned out on it (not as much as Brazil) so only get back about three times a year or so (ok so not that burned out!). Got a great partner in the states, traveled China & Tibet with her, checked out other Asian countries and the PI - but still get drawn back to the easy life of Thailand.

Thinking about heading home to the UK to live within next few years.

The actual owner of the fee simple interest in the underlying property is the Crown Property Bureau. Now how about that?

Ok I stand corrected. I was given that information by David Walls (spelling) who runs the group that owns, Cascades, Obsession, Carousel, etc.

I think its even more complicated than that. The crown group owns the biggest chunk of Nana, but its not all one lot.
The Indians own the lease and the management company, which covers most of Nana ( Crown property + others )

Of course, the above could all be incorrect too. Ask 3 people about who own Nana, get 4 different answers.

The reason Nana came about was purely because a group of Go Go Bars was forced to close and move so in a sense the type of situation that Doug is alluding to has already happened with a Happy ending...

The so called group of bars called the S16 ( between Soi14 and 16 ) Rosemary 1+2, Sunshine and Rainbow were forced to move due to development. This was around 1982 and the these bars re allocated to Nana in almost 24 hours. The only bar in Nana at this time was Lucky Lukes which i suppose is the foundation stone and one of the seminal bars. ( At that time Lukes had no address due to the fact that it wasnt in the Plaza or Soi4 , like a no mans land)

The Lebanese Restaurant and the Chemist were forced out pretty quickly as the place became a Magnet for other Sex joints..

Yep, Tomcat's right. People are getting all bent at the mere suggestion that Nana may not be eternal, but the fact is, it hasn't been around all that long, so if it doesn't last another 5 years, it wouldn't be that big of a surprise.

It will not be the end of the world if Nana folds up tomorrow. So no reason to get your undies in a bunch. If Nana folds, some other place will take over.

I'm sure people have been predicting it's doom since it first opened, but it's a fact that eventually they will be "right". Nana will fold eventually. That's a given. Nothing in this world is permanent. My contention is that it'll be soon.

Some of you pish-posh at that and say that you've "heard similar predictions for the past 10 years and they've all come to naught." And you're right. Nana has stuck around despite many "the lease is up" rumors.

However, if you're just dismissing this because "you've heard it all before", then you're not really taking a good look around. Things are different. There is a lot of development pressure on that area right now. There is also a lot of pressure from the government to "clean up" the sex industry (and by that, they don't mean get rid of it, but rather make it start paying taxes).

Those two things right there spell a shift away from low-end shitpits to spas and resorts (like you see on Ratchada). Nana is the ultimate shitpit and it also happens to sit on some highly desireable real estate. Exactly how long do you think that kind of situation can continue? Especially given the weak dollar?

I'll agree that it's unlikely that Nana will shut down tomorrow. But within the next 5 years? Come on guys. You have to admit that it's a possiblity at least.
