Oh, splendid! My girlfriends and I were just talking about this last Saturday.

Apparently, this came about when a male-to-female transgender approached the late Ayatollah Khomeini (highest spiritual leader in Iran) to appeal for their welfare due to harsh treatments by discrimination. On her way to see him, she endured sexual harassment and torture by official guards until she reached an audience with him.  Fortunately, he listened to her and was very understanding to the point of issuing an irrevocable decree to accept transsexualism in the country.

Found this article online http://www.truthout.org/cgi-bin/artm...w.cgi/35/15513 (although Im not sure about the author referring to her interviewees as "he". Strange   )

The growing concern of this acceptance is that since gays are punishable by law (even death!) a lot, if not most, of these gay people resort to undergoing surgeries and endure having to pretend theyre TGs just to keep their significant other. Talk about fighting for who you love!   But really, its sad.

There is already a history of sorts in Central Asia.

Another point to note is that Turkey, according to my ex Turkish GG girlfriend, has a large and active transexual population. She was always telling me that there are many TS clubs in Instanbul.

About 3 years ago, I met an Iranian post-op in Bangkok and we had a pleasant short time session.
She looked quite nice, very tall, white, fair skin and good body. She also told me, that there are many TS in Iran.

Very interesting , The Ayatollah was not some one you would think of as open minded .
Free your mind and your ass will follow .

From an academic point of view the programme was interesting.

The 3 'transexuals' interviewed were obviously boys in drag who had a simple choice. Either get a sex change so that they can legally have sexual relations with men or stay as they are, risk being arrested and hung from a crane for being gay.
