Yeah, big BS article. There are exceptions, but most will engage for money. I have a Thai LB girlfriend now that I felt was not in it for money. Even after 2 years "of testing", I am not always sure. Scamming bitches are everywhere, not just in asia...maybe having different reasons in asia...so i dont see this article as being wrong in itself, but more of an observation of a sample of what mostly true. On this planet anyways, the one thing that I can say for sure is that most women in the world are looking for security ( and yes...someones definition of security may be different than the other ones whether financial, emotional, child rearing etc ) in a lasting relationship. So, in Thailand it likely happens at a younger age... so relatively older farang are finding women who can see the writing on the wall, at a younger age, with her Thai male Partners perhaps and also the case that like anyone else; a "strong" partner in life is desirable early on. In North America something like this usually doesn't happen until women are getting into their 30s when they're thinking about having children, or 40s because they're still not hitched and they're looking for some security....but that's a generalization of course. And i see older dames hitching to younger or older men but that's again a security thing....go with a sure thing.

What's wrong with the article is that they deny that Thai women are looking for money. OK, maybe they are not looking for short term money for themselves, but they are looking for a stable money provider for their family. Maybe it's worse. The story is famous. Although farangs married a Thai girl, they never became a member of her family, just a money or a capital provider. They'd rather warn farangs about how to protect their investments in Thailand if they want to give good advises.

I worked overseas with an American gent who had a “family” in Thailand. He worked 11 months in Saudi then would spend his month of vacation with his family in Thailand. He told us about how they invested all his earnings in Thailand in his wife’s name and how good of a businesswoman she was. They had a farm, a fish farm and a store. He also told us about his family, all adopted as infants. Call me a jaded but I often thought that when he returned to Thailand for his month, the 11 month a year husband/father had to make himself scarce and the kids had to be nice to their 2nd dad while John paid for all the upgrades. I’ve lost track of him but sometimes wonder when I see stories like that if things worked out for him or did he get kicked to the curb and returned to the states with nothing to show for years of overseas toil.

It is legal to marry a Thai, but Gay marriage is not legal.
So that means you can only marry the opposite sex in Thailand.

Ladyboys are legally men in Thailand and they can never change their gender on documents.
So you cannot legally marry a ladyboy in Thailand.

That is kind of what happened to the owner of King's Bar in Pattaya. He was some type of consultant in Saudi Arabia or something like that. He gets paid alot when he works so he got a lot of time off. He married a Thai lady and opened King's bar which has ladies and ladyboys. He also had a house with his Thai wife in a rural town.
After a few years he gave it all up to his Thai wife and went back to where he came from.

Well, the research included a total of 120 people, so in the end it can't be taken very serious. There will be exceptions, but in general Thai people marry a farang for a better economical life.
