There have been transsexuals forever, almost every culture, including ancient times.
They didn't have feminizing things back then, but the same process of wearing makeup and women's clothes were used to make them look like ladies. Sadly, castration was carried out, basically with a knife cutting off the balls and dick. Nothing pretty about it.
The most documented ones are the "Hijra" of India boing back to ancient times with the Muslim Kings and Princes in India/Pakistan/Bangladesh. The other are the Galli priests who worshipped the Mother Goddess Cybele. If you search on the internet for those two, you'll see a bunch of of hits.
