Last night at (Issan) Tawan Daeng there were two LB singers, amongst the 20 or so performers (with another 30 or so in the audience, most with their Thai BF's, noticed two NEP LB's ~ 00:30). Both could really belt it out, and their voices didn't sound overly masculine. A few of the male singers actually seemed to have higher voices?
I think the fake voice is used primarily for the foreigners. Any Thai can easily identify a LB (if they don't know them personally), yes even the 'passable' ones, so there is no need for fakery.
