That would be my guess also. It's simply unrealistic to think that even half of the ladyboys working in Nana have a bloke waiting for them at home.

Most live 2, 3 or 4 to a room in a squalid crappy hole in an apartment building somewhere shitty in Bangkok. I'd guess the percentage of LBs working as prostitutes with boyfriends is about 10% at the very most.

In my experience, the more educated of the working LB's tend not to have Thai BF's and the poorly educated one's are more likely too. Its a common comment about the BF being nothing more than a leach - hence I suppose it figures that the more educated one's have already figured that out and dont go there plus they also realise that in almost all cases, the BF is hardly going to be able to provide for the LB the security blanket, they feel they want and are so less inclined to throw away their hard won earnings to somebody,even more if he is from a lower 'class' than they are (hence its mostly educated LB's who think this, and in order to have gotten the education, the family must have some money and standing).

I based my 50% figure by incorporating a lot of variables and first-hand experience. First off, the boyfriend may not even be living in Bangkok but rather making the trip back and forth say between Roi-Et and Intamara (Bangkok). If he is living in Bangkok then he probably is not sharing a room with his GF/LB. The term BF may be a bit of a misnomer, or maybe most here are applying the western concept of a BF to this question? These BF's are not waiting at home for the gal to get back from a long day at the bar, unless they are really desperate for money. Rather it is a much more fluid and intermittent relationship based on mutual needs. For the LB these are a common background (from the same hometown), same age, smiliar educational level, same language and interests, comfort and acceptance. For the BF the benefits are money and opportunistic sex.

My sister-in-law lives in a lower rent area of Bangkok, where many BG's and working LB's also live. I visit there quite often so have seen a lot of working LB's whom I recognize. To me it's pretty obvious who the Thai BF is when I see him with a LB? They even, occasionally, show up in the bar. And they get passed off to farangs as a brother or sister's BF/brother.

The education level theory is interesting but most of the working LBs in NEP, the subject of this thread, have a limited education. If more than 5% graduated Mathayom I'd be shocked.

Even university-educated, and/or professionally-employed LB's not working in the sex trade are looking for a Thai BF first and foremost. But they face huge hurdles as the eligible pool of males might enjoy sex with a LB, they are really looking for a GG with whom they can marry and have a family.

If we're using the western definition of a BF, requiring living rogether, then the figure would be closer to 0%. If we're using the Thai definition of a BF then I stand by my 50% estimate.

Even someone very familiar with a particular LB over a few years, and living fulltime in Bangkok might not suspect his dearie has a Thai BF. Flip a coin.

Only a few girls have been honest enough to tell that they have a boyfriend. Personally I do not care really whether they do or don't since I am just renting their time for a few hours or a few days.

The only think I care about is that they give me that illusion that they actually like or what many call the GFE (girlfriend experience).

If I had to guess I would say that maybe 10-20% have boyfriends and maybe a further 10-20% have a gik on the side.

I don't know who you talk to ShockToe regarding LBs wanting "first and foremost to have a Thai boyfriend", to quote a previous post of yours directed at me, "Did you speak to one person and make this conclusion for the whole population?".

I cannot think of one LB I know who wants a Thai boyfriend. Most detest them.

As you pointed out in the same post, Thai males are mostly looking for money and sex, and no long-term relationship, as it is still not socially the way to go for a Thai male looking at a family. All the LBs know this of course and generally loathe the Thai males vs think of them first and foremost.

All that being said, I would say LBs would like a young man who can take care of them of any nationality, "first and foremost", but regrettably, often settle for second best, like us old farts, as we can "take care" of them...and that is the primary consideration for many (but granted, not all).
