As a follow up to "The Third Sex..." I thought maybe something like "Money Number One" would be a reality check.

Has anyone read these books/pamphlets? Are they any good?

Actually they are like "regular people". I live with one and there is nothing irregular about her. One might say we are the irregular ones to talk about and read books on them! Per another post of mine, imagine there were books and forums on "white males", and books written about our history and habits, and forums of LBs or women writing about us! A LB is a girl, and is 100% regular in that respect. Anyone who lives with one will know that. Same unending desire to shop, cry, get jealous, and make you miss her when she's not there.

For the dumbest guy in the world, read "Quest for Katoeys".

"Changing Ones" by Will Roscoe for the American Indian Berdache.

"With Respect to Sex" by Gayatri Redyy is good, about the Indian Hijra --- now they are definitely different! This one I would highly, highly recommend.

If u want more, I have about 80 books in front of me on Katoeys!

(kahuna @ May 23 2007,08:06) ....how in the hell does your "theory" (what you mean is your opinion and/or speculation) reconcile brothers and sisters from the same family growing up straight?
          "Theory \The"o*ry\, n.; pl. Theories. [F. th['e]orie, L.
theoria, Gr. ? a beholding, spectacle, contemplation,
speculation, fr. ? a spectator, ? to see, view. See
          Theater.]
          1. A doctrine, or scheme of things, which terminates in
          speculation or contemplation, without a view to practice;
          hypothesis; speculation."

It is an opinion, based on what I have observed. As you said (but I'll leave out your "how in the hell"), they are many other factors involved, but IMHO, the lack of a male role model is a major part of the puzzle.
          JackG,
I do not think you "observed" all these. What you had done is that you read a lot of books for other purposes (getting tips on raising your kids), and something there gave you a misleading hint (since you also have a side interests on LB), you formed a theory and then started to "observe evidences". You overlooked lot of things people said just right on this forum (they left unanswered) because they don't fit in your theory.
Nothing personal - just like how you have taken the debate so far. I just hope you review your "methodology", so to speak.

I didn't mean to imply that layboys are freaks. I apologize if I have offended anyone.

I should have put the phrase regular people in quotes. My definition of "regular people" is the people I come in contact with.  The asian transexuals I've met are weekend cross-dressers who do it for the erotic thrill. I don't believe they are ladyboys.

Frankly, I doubt if Thai ladyboys would do well here in the states.  Everyting seems to be polarized between two extremens: "Straight" and "Gay/Lesbian". How would schools and other institutions react to transexuals? How would ordinary people react?

I wish there were Thai ladyboys here in the States. Certainly the Pacific Northwest (Seattle and Portland) is open-minded enough to accomodate them.

Most of the girls I've talk to or been with come from a normal Thai family, mom , dad and many siblings. They may have issues with their parents mostly dads but which Asian girl don't have issues with their dads? I can say that almost every Asian girl I know have a lot of issues with their dads (mostly GGs and some LBs). And the GGs do not turn out to be little sluts or lesbians (sometimes they do ;-) ) and I've never met a LB who told me that they decided to be a LB because of their dad.

I agree that there is a big comradeship between the girls, I've met girls who start taking hormones at the age of 13, 14 because their big sisters were doing it.

                No offense taken.

BTW, has anybody read much about Toms and Dees in Thailand?

The rapid reaction is to think they are lesbians, but the couple of books I've read imply their behavior is dramatically different from lesbians. Apparently a lot in Thailand as well. For example, many Toms do not take off their clothes during sex and don't let Dees touch them. Toms overpower Dees in terms of ordering them what to do in their personal lives and sex. Toms often dress like men.

After reading on them, I asked around, and sure enough there are lots of Toms and Dees and yes they are like that. Toms u can often spot. Dees, not so.

                  Hello Ziggy,

I'm not convinced that the behavoiur you describe is confined to Thai lesbians.

I don't have much experience of western lesbians but one I did get on well with behaved very much as a male and dressed as a male.
Her female companion was the skipper of a tug and so was in a far higher position employment-wise but was treated very much as the lesser partner in public.

I have little doubt that she behaved exactly the same way towards her female partner in private.

I cannot really say, as this isn't an area I know well, I'm just going by books. But a book called "Toms and Dees" is a very interesting read.

Just because we are anonymous here does not mean one should stop being courteous. I re-read my own post and I do not think I ever wrote that I was some kind of authority to knowing what you think. You went out of your way to explain the definition of "theory" in one post - how come what I think can not be just one theory? I "think" you might make a mistake in forming your theory - you can disagree and explain why I misunderstood you? where does all these foul languages come from?
If you are the only one, aside from almost everyone disagreeing you here, who saw the truth, and you did come to conclusions via some real solid scientific approach, I wish you the best. Just keep the shouting to yourself - for I purposely mentioned I did not want to offend you, especially over a pretty dry topic like this. You want to loose your cool, go ahead. I "think" it's ridiculous.
