  • Pompeii , Pattaya -- Same Same ?

I'm watching Sex in the Ancient World-Pompeii , and all I can think is that sounds like an ancient Pattaya.

A seaside resort, economy based on prostitution, various types of establishments (low end, high end),everything secretly controlled by nobleman, etc....

They even compare it with Rome and say Pompeii was a 'low end' destination compared to Rome. Sound familiar ?

What channel Snick? I like those kids of documentaries.

And about S & G (good name for a new club?)

The people of Sodom and Gomorrah engaged in depraved homosexual acts. God sent angels to the city of Sodom to see how bad things were: "Then the Lord said to Abraham, 'There are terrible accusations against Sodom and Gomorrah, and their sin is very great. I must go down to find out whether or not the accusations which I have heard are true.' (Genesis 18:20-21). On arriving in Sodom, the angels were met by Abraham's nephew Lot. Knowing the men of the city were sexual deviants, Lot urged these two visitors to stay at his home: "He kept urging them, and finally they went with him to his house. Lot ordered his servants to bake some bread and prepare a fine meal for the guests. When it was ready, they ate it." (Genesis 19:3). The magnitude of how sinful the men of Sodom and Gomorrah were is seen by their blatant disregard for committing a shocking act upon two men they didn't know: "Before the guests went to bed, the men of Sodom surrounded the house. All the men of the city, both young and old, were there. They called out to Lot and asked, 'Where are the men who came to stay with you tonight? Bring them out to us!' The men of Sodom wanted to have "sex" with them." (Genesis 19:4-5). Since it is only possible for a man and a woman to have sexual intercourse, the term used for two men engaging in a homosexual act is Sodomy, which derives from the word Sodom. The angels helped Lot, his wife and his two daughters out of the city, then God burned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. All who remained there were burned to death: "Suddenly the Lord rained burning sulphur on the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and destroyed them and the whole valley, along with all the people there and everything that grew on the land." (Genesis 19:24-25). Homosexuality is as much a sin today as it was back then. God decreed a law against the abhorrent act: "If a man has sexual relations with another man, they have done a digusting thing, and both shall be put to death. They are responsible for their own death." (Leviticus 20:13).

        And a less homphobic version:

Classical Jewish texts are seen by many as not stressing the homosexual aspect of the attitude of the inhabitants of Sodom as much as their cruelty and lack of hospitality to the "stranger." The Jewish Encyclopedia has information on the importance of hospitality to the Jewish people. The people of Sodom were seen as guilty of many other significant sins. Rabbinic writings affirm that the Sodomites also committed economic crimes, blasphemy and bloodshed.
A rabbinic tradition, described in the Mishnah, postulates that the sin of Sodom was related to property: Sodomites believed that "what is mine is mine, and what is yours is yours" , which is interpreted as a lack of compassion. Another rabbinic tradition is that these two wealthy cities treated visitors in a sadistic fashion.
Now, about this time the Sodomites, overwhelmingly proud of their numbers and the extent of their wealth, showed themselves insolent to men and impious to the divinity, insomuch that they no more remembered the benefits that they had received from him, hated foreigners and avoided any contact with others. Indignant at this conduct, God accordingly resolved to chastise them for their arrogance, and not only to uproot their city, but to blast their land so completely that it should yield neither plant nor fruit whatsoever from that time forward.

        Sounds a bit familiar eh?
