(bkkldby @ Jul. 13 2008,15:27) ... during our last conversation she was telling me how she will have to pay 10K upfront to get her job back at Cascade, something she does not relish. she needs the work to pay for her uni tuition....
No doubt she told you that, but I have trouble believing that a bar like Cascade would turn away anybody in these lean times, especially with her new boobs/increased earning potential.
So... didja spring for the 10K yet?"The Ladyboy Collection- start yours today!"

not always the same vig, but all have to pay up front to work. i know one who was asked for 3k, and three who were asked for 10k. maybe only the girls who are returning, i have never spoken to anyone who was asked to do this up-front as a newbie.
not the bar, the managers are asking for it is how i think it goes.
no i have not sprung for it, i do not do that sort of thing since 1988 when it happened once, i learned my lesson, and i have never done it again, NEVER. not even after i was married to a thai girl. besides, i take very good care of Ben, she does not have to cajole or trick me into giving her anything, she knows she can ask me outright, and if i can, i will.
once is enough for me to learn a lesson. it cost me $5,000 USD in '88, that lasts a long time that kind of lesson. a life time to be precise.
also, whenever a girl asks me for help, because of the type of scams they all run, i insist that if i do help someone that they give me in-store credit. i barter with them. i give them the dosh up-front, and then they work it off. not usury and allows everyone is happy. (also, i know i pay more for short time than most, my choice. but when they pay back, it is at the going punter rate which means i usually get one more throw in for my money. call it interest. the Thai system is 10%, that is less than what i charge and it is only their time, not cash back. much easier to co0llect, and more willing to do so.) Â i have done this several times and it has always worked out. they get the cash when they need it, and i get favors in trade when i want them. and many times it is during regular work hours so they get the bar fine credit at the bar ta-boot.
it doesn't matter what they need it for, and i tell them not to tell me a long story, just how much do you need, and will you barter for it. others hear of this and come to me asking for the same, but i only do it for girls i have a 'relationship' with.
and like they say in all those mobster movies: I know where they live. and i never go away, i live here, and i am seeing them every other day or so.
guys, you got to think outside the box when you hit the bricks here in bkk. use your farang powers of creative thinking, it works most often, and everyone is happy.
now i ask you, who is being naive, me or you?
as far as lean times, customers are lean, but not girls. last weekend there were over 75 girls there dancing, 25 in each size - small, medium and large. they go there in droves to work because they know the place gets exposure and any punters around will show up there sooner or later.
i have sat in cascade for too many hours over the years, i know everyone there who is worth having a conversation with. all of this is the same time and again. most of them despise management (just like they hate thai guys), who wouldn't, they do all the work, and all management wants is a cut. just like the police and every other dick who is afraid of making a living by doing something that requires some modicum of effort.
when i tip the waitress she has to hide her tip, not from the other servers, but from the mamasan. only 1 or 2 good servers in there, and she expects to take a share of their tips. (i also tip the tray, but always tip the waitress besides.)
i am not kee-nee-ow, so girls will talk to me, they know it is worth their while in the long term. money talks, nobody walks. Â Â

10,000 baht is what it costs to get you back in the lineup... It used to be called the 'lifetime barfine'
Nothing 'fishy' about it.
There's no shortage of talent so if she wants to play she's got to pay...
GG bars play favourites and don't always stick to the rules but LB bars in Nana are pretty ruthless...

in regard to the 'fishy' comment and those similar ones i see posted all over the net inferring that for the most part they are all slippery and cons, i find it to be the opposite if you deal straight.
after 20 years, my averages are for the kinder, gentler assumption that they are not lying to me. but that is only my experience and their interaction with me.
i married a gg from king group who started work at the ripe old age of 13 (she ran away from home because her mother's thai boyfriend was attempting to rape her every day, and that is why i never gave her mother a dime, and she knows it). i met her when she was 15, and we did the deed after some German left her with child at the age of 17.
i have made it an effort to know the score, not only for my own protection, but so i can actually understand and assimilate into the local culture and social scene.
until someone proves to me they are not genuine, i treat them as if they are, and give them the benefit of the doubt. i also do not lend money in the conventional way, so i am protected in that sense.
their knowing i live here has a lot to do with the way they choose to approach me. for those who come and go, i understand you may be fairer game than i am, and thus assume something 'fishy' is going on, probably is.

(prince39 @ Jul. 21 2008,19:50) OK, enough discussion of bargirl high finance !! how about a pic of Ben post surgery?
anyone?
she never had the procedure that everyone is discussing.
i was with her last night, we had a snack at the Landmark coffee shop, and i am telling you it never happened.
then i took her for a look see at Guess because she is trying to figure out where she wants to work to make next terms tuition.
BTW: i told her about this thread and she thinks it is all quite silly.
